Proverbs 3:7 Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. We've all heard this nursery rhyme before; Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. I'd like to believe he was but a fragile mortal human being that allowed his pride to sit himself up too high for his heart to handle so he fell. I believe one of the most dangerous things a believer can do is to become wise in his/her own eyes. To become obese in the head yet anorexic in the heart when it comes to the things of God. There are a lot of people who know God very well, in their heads.
